develop, strengthen and empower your management team and business strategy

The Jane

A textile wholesaler, established for 20 years, having known a turnover ~£1M, strong profit and loyal client base.

"We would heartily recommend The Terrier Group to any business seeking to develop, strengthen and empower their management team and business strategy. Our directed time with Kath over six months provided not just sound insights, signposting and challenges that shaped our thinking but also a much more personal safe space to consider our successes and shortcomings both personally and corporately. We are a better organisation, in a stronger position moving forward because of our partnership with The Terrier Group."

Where we started...

Who - A textile wholesaler, established for 20 years, having known a turnover ~£1M, strong profit and loyal client base.

What - The last few years have seen a decline in sales. Early success had hidden a lack of longer term planning, innovation and operational management.

A changing market, few new product ranges, and little dedicated sales activity now meant they were facing high inventory and deficit.

Firefighting and quick wins had become the daily experience. Succession planning had also become an issue with the original founder wanting to retire.

What we did...

A monthly series of 6 x 1 day facilitated sessions, to identify plans to turn the business around, as well as transfer core business skills to key staff. Work Included:

  • Business diagnostic to identify areas of strength and weakness
  • Market segmentation and analysis
  • Sales plan, tracking and reporting
  • New product and innovation plan
  • Reengineering the product development process including a review of the supply chain
  • Definition of internal roles & responsibilities
  • Introduction of operational huddles

What happened...

Within the 6 month period:

  • 8 new product lines
  • A shift to proactive marketing and sales including client visits and trade shows, resulting in new orders
  • Refresh of tired brand including packaging, website, brochures
  • The transfer of key supplier and client relationships from the founder to the newly dedicated Business Development Director
  • A shift in the culture to action, review, hope and excitement
  • Core business skills and communication channels developed to build on the change to date
